Following a successful maiden campaign during which it secured two race victories last year, Swiss team Emil Frey Racing will again represent Lamborghini Squadra Corse in GT World Challenge Europe in 2021, adding a third Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo for a full season assault.
Lamborghini Factory Driver Albert Costa and Giacomo Altoè remain with the team for 2020, alongside Norbert Siedler. Costa and Siedler will contest the Sprint Cup races together, with Altoè brought in to take part in the Endurance Cup outings in the #163 Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo.
Siedler moves over to the #163 after a season alongside Mikaël Grenier in the #14 car, which will participate in the Silver Cup category for 2021 by a completely Swiss line-up of Ricardo Feller, Alex Fontana and Rolf Ineichen. Having impressed in the final rounds of the 2020 Endurance Cup season, Feller will contest the full Sprint and Endurance campaign this year with Fontana, while the experienced Ineichen joins for the Endurance rounds.
The third car features three newcomers to the Emil Frey Racing fold, including two GT novices. Williams Formula 1 Team reserve driver Jack Aitken makes it GT racing début this season and will be joined in the #114 Huracán by fellow single seater racer Konsta Lappalainen for the Sprint Cup races. Frenchman Arthur Rougier, who drove a part GT World Challenge Europe campaign last year in an Audi, will contest the Endurance Cup races.
Lorenz Frey-Hilti, Team Principal said: “The season ending late in 2020 due to the Coronavirus resulted in a shorter winter break for us. The mechanics did comprehensive maintenance work on the cars and all our equipment, while the engineers analysed the telemetry data and onboard footage to improve the strategy and optimize processes. I’m very excited and optimistic about the continuation and strengthening of our partnership by adding a third car. The level of expertise is extremely high, especially in this premier class of GT3. Winning is just a matter of seconds. This is why we greatly value the professional and active exchange with Lamborghini Squadra Corse. We’re a well-coordinated team aiming for strong results.”
Giorgio Sanna, Head of Motorsport at Automobili Lamborghini added: “As Lamborghini Squadra Corse we’re glad to support Emil Frey Racing in the upcoming 2021 season, with three cars committed in both Endurance and Sprint series. The team will definitely be a main player in both the Pro and Silver classes, having a strong combination of Pro and talented Silver drivers who are very well known in the Lamborghini family.”
