Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe title battle set to intensify in the dunes of Zandvoort

17 июня 2021

The technical circuit of Zandvoort in the Netherlands plays host to the third round of the 2021 Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe season this weekend, with the state of play in the one-make championship reserved for Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo Evos as tight as ever in the standings across the four classes.

Following a sensational double victory last time out at Paul Ricard, Oregon Team's Kevin Gilardoni and Leonardo Pulcini leads the Pro championship, five points clear of Johan Kraan Motorsports' Max Weering who will be looking to exact revenge in his home race this weekend.

Such was the frenetic action in the south of France in May that any number of four crews could have taken victory in the pair of 50-minute races. As it was, Pulcini and last year's vice champion Gilardoni bounced back from an up-and-down season opener at Monza to move to the top of the standings. Behind Weering in the standings is the Leipert Motorsport pairing of Sebastian Balthasar and Noah Watt, who recorded a fourth and sixth place finish in Paul Ricard and are just seven points off the top of the table. All three crews will be fighting for victory this weekend, along with the Target Racing duo of Raúl Guzman and Glenn van Berlo and the GSM Racing partnership of Jonathan Cecotto and Kevin Rossel.

Cecotto and Rossel crossed the line first in the opening race at Paul Ricard but were denied the full points due to a time penalty for a track limits infringement. They will no doubt be in the mix this weekend, as will the Bonaldi Motorsport entry of Daan Pijl and the returning 2019 Super Trofeo Europe champion Danny Kroes in the #33 Huracán ST Evo.

Also looking for a strong weekend in their home country is the Johan Kraan Motorsport’s pairing of Milan Teekens and Maxime Oosten following another double points finish at Paul Ricard, while the VS Racing duo of Michael Dörrbecker and Mattia Michelotto will be keen to kick on from their maiden Super Trofeo podium in race two last time out. There will be two additions to the Pro-Am field this weekend, with the experienced Kikko Galbiati teaming up with reigning International GT Open champion Miguel Ramos in the #9 Target Racing Huracán Super Trofeo Evo.

Leading the Pro-Am standings heading into the weekend is the #16 VS Racing crew of Karol Basz and Andrzej Lewandowski, who hold a three-point advantage over the Target Racing partnership of Andrea Cola and Dmitry Gvazava, with Micanek Motorsport's Bronek Formanek and Josef Zaruba - who took their first win of the season in race two at Paul Ricard - a further four points adrift in third. Oscar Lee and Dann Wells (Leipert Motorsport) are just one point behind the Czech duo, meaning the class is one of the most hotly contested ahead of the third round.

In the Am class, Automobile Tricolore's Raffaele Ginnaoni leads the entry in the Netherlands, and holds a somewhat comfortable six-point margin at the top of the standings over Boutsen Ginion's Claude-Yves Gosselin and Renaud Kuppens following a second victory of the season in the second Paul Ricard race. Of course, anything can happen in Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe and a strong weekend from Gosselin/Kuppens or Leipert Motorsport’s Ray Calvin could turn the points scenario on its head.

The situation is just as tightly fought in the Lamborghini Cup class, with Imperiale Racing's Hans Fabri, whose best finish on home soil is a third place in Race 1 two years, determined to finally break his duck at Zandvoort. His closes challengers so far in the LB Cup points race come in the form of Boutsen Ginion's Pierre Feligioni and Daniel Waszkzinski, who are just four points off the lead. Then there's the FFF Racing Team entry of Donovan and Luciano Privitelio, who claimed a breakthrough first Super Trofeo Europe victory in France, who will also be ones to watch this weekend.
